Leib­niz-Zen­trum All­ge­meine Sprach­wis­sen­schaft (ZAS) - Research area 3 "Syn­tax and Lex­icon"

The Leib­niz-Centre Gen­eral Lin­guist­ics (ZAS) is a non-uni­versity research insti­tute of the fed­eral state of Ber­lin. At the ZAS, the human capa­city for lan­guage and its expres­sion through indi­vidual lan­guages is explored with the aim to gain a bet­ter under­stand­ing of the bio­lo­gical, cog­nit­ive, and social factors sur­round­ing this cent­ral human abil­ity.

Stu­dent assi­stant for FB 3/pro­ject MeasChange

The Leib­niz-Centre Gen­eral Lin­guist­ics (ZAS) is look­ing for a stu­dent assist­ant to under­take tasks in the research area 3 Syn­tax and Lex­icon / pro­ject MeasChange (40 hours per month; 13,00 Euro/h) start­ing on 01.03.2023. A min­imum dur­a­tion of half a year is desired.

Job descrip­tion
The pro­ject MeasChange ‘Meas­ures of Change in the gram­mar of verbal pre­dic­a­tion’ invest­ig­ates the gram­mar of verbs of change (e.g. open, eat, fix, fall) with a par­tic­u­lar focus in their beha­vior in meas­ure­ment struc­tures. Your tasks
  • Help con­struct and dis­trib­ute ques­tion­naires per­tain­ing to lin­guistic phe­nom­ena.
  • Con­duct searches in lin­guistic cor­pora.
  • Com­pile the res­ults of cor­pus searches and ques­tion­naire stud­ies.
  • Gen­eral aux­il­i­ary tasks, such as assist­ance with the organ­iz­a­tion of con­fer­ences and work­shops.

Requirements:

  • Essen­tial fields of study: syn­tax, semantics.
  • Flu­ent speaker of Ger­man and good work­ing know­ledge of Eng­lish.
  • Exper­i­ence work­ing with cor­pora is wel­comed.

Formal require­ments
  • enrolled as a stu­dent at a Ger­man uni­versity or at a for­eign uni­versity with H+ status (search­able in the data­base ana­bin.kmk.org)
  • Mas­ter's degree not com­pleted
