Der For­schungs­be­reich für Adap­tive Ratio­na­li­tät (ARC) ver­eint eine inter­dis­zi­pli­näre, inter­na­tio­nale For­scher­gruppe, die sich aus Wis­sen­schaft­le­rin­nen und Wis­sen­schaft­lern der Psy­cho­lo­gie, Neu­ro­wis­sen­schaf­ten, Öko­no­mie, Phi­lo­so­phie, Bio­lo­gie und Mathe­ma­tik zusam­men­setzt. Wir unter­su­chen, wie Men­schen und andere Lebe­we­sen – aus­ge­stat­tet mit begrenz­ten kogni­ti­ven Res­sour­cen – in der Welt und im Gedächt­nis nach Infor­ma­tio­nen suchen und wie sie Ent­schei­dun­gen tref­fen, wenn wenig Zeit für sorg­fäl­ti­ges Nach­den­ken bleibt.

Working field:

The cen­ter for Adapt­ive Ration­al­ity dir­ec­ted by Ralph Her­twig at the Max Planck Insti­tute for Human Devel­op­ment is seek­ing applic­ants for a pos­i­tion as
Stu­dent Research Assist­ant to assist the ongo­ing research in all phases of the sci­entific pro­cess. Research assist­ants are usu­ally employed on a basis of 41-80h a month. Pos­i­tion lasts for 6 months min­imum and can be pro­longed given mutual interest. Anti­cip­ated start date is June 1st 2023 or later by agree­ment.

Requirements:

Require­ments
  • Enrolled in Psy­cho­logy, Cog­nit­ive Sci­ence, Com­puter Sci­ence, Bio­logy or a related sub­ject at a Ger­man uni­versity
  • High in flex­ib­il­ity and com­mit­ment
  • Good level of Eng­lish
  • High achieve­ment level
  • Interest in par­ti­cip­at­ing in research on social decision mak­ing

Desired Qual­i­fic­a­tions (not all need to apply)
  • Skills with video ana­lysis
  • Skills with data wrangling
  • Skills in stat­ist­ics and stat­ist­ical soft­ware (R, Python etc.)

What we offer:

The research cen­ter for Adapt­ive Ration­al­ity is invest­ig­at­ing vari­ous aspects of judg­ment and decision mak­ing. We offer you the chance to par­ti­cip­ate in an inter­na­tional and inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research team. The pos­i­tion is to assist our research on the socio eco­lo­gical drivers of human for­aging in the wild using ice­fish­ers (see for more info: https://youtu.be/0G5nO6qlnoM). A core com­pon­ent of the activ­it­ies is to ana­lyze video data using event log­ging soft­ware (https://www.boris.unito.it/).
